I found a site on the world wide interweb that provides a comprehensive guide to running Ultima 8 in XP without DOSBox or any other programs of the like. I've tried it, and it seems to work OK, if a little slow, but I think I might have a few bugs to iron out there still. If I get it working smoothly I'll make a post about it. The site is - http://members.iinet.net.au/~rsd/six.html
NOTE: My PC is quite old, the steps laid out in this guide will probably work a lot better for newer more powerful computers. |

I just got my Ultima 8 working (Finally! Last time I played this game about 6-7 years ago I think!). But yeah, it is little slow. So do you know can I do something for that? So the game will be little faster, more playable.

Oh well. I have read that another long Ultima 8 topic, and have tried all those different dosBox senttings and else but doesn't work still.
Maybe I should be happy for even having a change to play the whole game. Thanks anyway. |

Forget that page, I've bought a new PC and now U8 runs fine in DOSBox.

Good, this has been solved. You need a better computer and to be able to emulate in DOSBox!

Well, my original intention in exploring this particular avenue was to look into the possibility of running it on an older PC without DOSBox, but I will say this to those considering trying the same - it's a huge pain in the pants and if you do get it working it's really laggy and slow. So try it if you want, but don't be too hopeful. If you use DOSBox, I find the best way to run U8 is to go into dosbox.conf and change cycles to auto and core to dynamic. I find that works with most games.

You can also use D-Fend for a Windows GUI way for editing and launching games using DosBox... |
