You can still continue with whatever quests you got for now, but at some point in the game you'll become stuck as Xardas ala Important NPC will be missing. Although you could still "insert" him through the console (cheating area), that might help.

I'll be honest with you, but it's just my opinion, and of course tastes are different.

I think Gothic 1 is the best (most raw, first inspiration and all) game in the series, but quite unpolished in some regards. Especially the music is very catchy - reminds me of The Witcher 1 in it's raw beauty.

Gothic II improved on the series, upgraded the Gothic 1 engine and raised the graphic quality so much that the second game ran a bit slow even on high-end computers of that time (although that might be in part due to a bit amateurish programming - Gothic series have always been known for their bugs).
Unfortunately, in response to many game fan requests, they also made the game lot harder, forcing many "non-hardcore" people to cheat to boost their characters at the start to be able to enjoy the game. Fortunately, some player-made mods adressed that issue, making it a game accessible to everybody again. With that, it's for me the best game in the series, with many quests, but finished bit too quickly.

Now, Gothic III. I do love all 3 games in the series (not the Gothic III addon though), and I love the open-world which Gothic III is, and you can see they made a lot of effort to make it a good game. There are hundreds of quests, very big (and empty) world to explore.
Unfortunately, due to a few disagreements with the old publisher of Piranha Bytes, Jowood (defunct now and part of Nordic Games), Gothic III was never properly finished, and was left as a half-done, badly bugged mess behind.
Thankfully, some dedicated, very determined and technically well-versed fans of the game series spent many years working on, and optimizing, the Enhanced Edition patch, which fixed a whole lot of bugs and unfinished things with the game. And one or two big mods, like Content Mod, and Questpaket (German name), did a whole lot of work to add more interesting content to the, otherwise rather empty, game.
Mind you, it is still an unfinished game despite the patch and the mods, and it will always remain that now. There are still issues, like the absurdly weak damage of summoned creatures vs. your enemies. However it is a game I can enjoy. BUT, for me at least, Gothic III is nowhere as good as the previous 2 games in the series.

Danke Sehr, Danke sehr,

for Your competent and sincere opinion.

My respect.

Sadly, being in the beginning of the game i do not know the

fact the game G3 is unfinished.

Why i do not like G2 and

why i like G3?

G3 is very easy to control.
G2 and especially G1 is terrible to control.
G2 is like G1 cont.

G3 has very nice graphic.

Music? I always off game music and i am listening
my music collection. Very biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig.

Hmmm...there is a very interesting quest.
-I have to collect five very special plants Lobelia for
Mr. Treslott in Nemora camp.
After 3 days i collected only two plants Lobelia.
Very probably in the very early stage of game i collected
these Lobelia plants and carelessly sold. Now i have to
check every merchant for these plants hoping to find out or..
failed quest.
Never mind.

No, no i have no words to say!! Nice game, sehr gut!!

and of course tastes are different.

Last Q:
Dear Scatty,
has this game more that one finish?
Danke.

@Caro Capo

Si, the days have to be at least 36 hours for
dedicated gamers like YOU and me.

Yes, there are, from my memory (been a few years since I last played Gothic III), 3 endings.
One siding with Beliar (the evil ending, bringing dakness over the land).
One siding with Innos (the "good" and lawful, but also freedom-limiting, like "'I'm the law and you're judged").
And one siding with Adanos, the neutral (siding with Saturas and the water mages - and with Xardas in the end) - the probably best ending, but I won't spoil why.

I meant of course with the Night of the Raven addon, which made Gothic II lot more difficult, more expensive skills etc. Without the addon, Gothic II is much like the first game, not very hard.

The expansion reveal that the true ending is the neutral.
