September 13, 2004 - Resident Evil: Apocalypse didn't break any records during its opening weekend, but the film recouped almost all of its production costs with a $23.7 million gross and is poised for profit from here on out. That will probably be enough for Sony/Screen Gems to greenlight the third film in the series which has already been conceptualized.Series producer Paul W.S. Anderson, who wrote and directed the first film and penned the screenplay for Apocalypse, talked with the Hollywood Reporter about his plans for the next installment. "I always thought of the Resident Evil films as a trilogy," he said. "The first film was a prequel to the game world. The new movie intersects the film and game worlds. And the third movie will act as a follow-up to the games. It's a nice arc – prehistory, in-game and then a sequel to the games."

Anderson recently made similar comments to SCI FI Wire. "I think it's a franchise that has legs, and I would very much like to see a third movie. I don't know if I'd direct it. I think it would have to depend on what happens."

"Whether I directed it or not," Anderson said, "it would be a franchise I would want to stay very much in control of and very involved in. There's a broad range of stories to tell, a very wide Resident Evil universe, so there are a lot of potential stories that we could do that would be tied in to the video games."

I thought the best thing about the first one was Milla Jovovich. And the second one too come to think of it.

I was talking about acting talent.

No, really.

...

Okay, perhaps not.

If you liked the first one, I expect you'll like the second one. I thought they were both pretty good, and - I may be alone here - felt they captured the essence of the games pretty well. Particularly one aspect of the second film, but i'll say no more, seeing as you haven't seen it. =)

(And totally off-topic, just clicked on your 'adventure' link, Auhsor. Is interesting).
