hello! Sorry if it is offtopic, but does anyone know, if there is MS-DOS-like operating system for an old computer without a hard disk out there?
I've searched a lot, but I need the one that allows you changing flops after boot (so I can run "huge" games). The only thing I've found around the net that does that is "ExtDOS" ( http://extdos.siteburg.com ), but it is in Russian.

Maybe you can advise me? :help:

P.S. Does anyone here know Russian?

DOS is a short for Disk Operating System.

You can have DOS running from floppy drives (3.5" or 5.25") without problems.

So? After it boots, what if I need to change the DOS floppy to the one with the game?
I need one with a ramdisk, IMHO...

When you load DOS, then you switch floppy and start program/game.

This was the way computers worked before HD.

And you can always look for some old HD.

DOS resides in your memory after loading and then you can swap disks. Or, if you're one of those lucky few who have a dual disk-drive, you can actually leave the DOS disk in :w00t: Wicked oldschool nerding that is! k: (Okay, not as oldschool as using punchcards for memory but still :P )

I still have the system disks for both my 286 laptop and desktop.
Do you have a desktop? if so, install a second drive. If you don't have another 3,5" slot, buy one of these 3,5" to 5,25" frames you can find on eBay.
What kind of computer do you have?
