Wow, almost unbelievable that this classic was still missing...

Steering wasn't that great, but better than most contemporary games, and I've always liked Outrun a lot more than for example "Lamborghini American Challenge" that's referred to as a similar game in the review. Outrun's gameplay may be a little simple in comparison, but it's not so annoyingly difficult.

Great memories, and a milestone of a game...

I think Out Run was the only racing arcade that I've played. I'm not in racing games at all, but this one deserves respect. Cool gameplay and great music. I'll dl just to get the taste again...

A big 5 stars for this one k:

Ah, the memories. This game and I go way back... And still play it almost daily :P
Great addition to the site k:

I heard the arcade versions were better though.

EDIT: Oh, and I can still laugh about the hilly water LOL

Run it in DOSBox with machine=tandy (and select graphics option 2: TANDY 16 colour) and you'll get digitised sounds.

Arcade version (yes, I'm old enough to have played it in the arcade ) had a sit-down cabinet and a proper racing wheel, plus superior sound and graphics, but this conversion is fun to play as well

I Played the arcade version, I assume at a retro games expo.. The graphics and sound were all good..
Then in the same expo, I found it for CBM 64, I boughjt it with a cbm but it wouldnt work (the commodore, not the game)

I remember discovering Out Run in the arcades in some summer vocations, and when i returned back to Athens i rushed to a games store to buy it for my Amstrad 6128. What a dissapointment i faced when i played it in my Amstrad LOL Compared to the arcade version, it was awful :not_ok:

Hehe, excellent game. I remember playing this in an arcade back when I was like, 8...and two little kids walked up and said

Boy:"Wow, he's good at this! Wonder why?"
Girl:"He's old enough to drive dummy!"

I just cracked up then and there.
