I also didn't like Firefox too much. I frequently use Opera, and I'm quite happy with it. But now you mentioned the memory leaks, I checked the memory usage. It is using a whopping 70 Mb! However, I do have a lot pages open in it (like 25 or so), so maybe it is quite normal.
But no, I don't have a good alternative.

Efthimios, could you be a bit more specific on the memory leaks in Opera V8+?

Firefox worked fine for first few days for me but now it is getting some problems, not working fine. Sometimes pages don't open up! It just hangs and gives some errors. I am using Internet Explorer again though Firefox is still installed. But any suggestions how to improve Firefox's performance? It just hangs up. sometimes it is very fast but mostly it comes out to be much slower than Internet Explorer. I am using SP2.

@ efthimios

Firefox and IE work fine for me. 2 months ago my IE 6 also crashed. I tryied to unistall it and reinstall IE 5 (hoping that this will fix the crash problem), but my OS Windows 98 broke (I don't think that I used the correct term, but I think you know what I wanted to say) and I reinstalled it. After that my IE 6 didn't crash anymore.
Also, if you want to open a link in a tab, left CTRL+left click on it. Oh yes, Firefox 1.0.6 has been released. Try to update your Firefox.

I hope this will help you.
k: :bye:

I will try the new version of firefox.
ctrl+click I know that it opens in new tab but I do not want to use the keyboard when browsing. You see, unless I am typing in a forum or something, I usualy stand in a very bad posture where I am leaning on my left arm while using the mouse with the right, it is very convenient relaxing stand and having to use my left hand all the time would ruin it.

vipin, if you are going to use IE then I propose to use Avant instead. It has some good things the IE does not have and it is the same explorer.

omg, before I use lynx I will probably use Pathfinder or C.A.B. :-p

Decalies 70MBs is nothing, some times it will use FAR more than that. My record so far is 220MBs. With about 4 tabs open. It looks like it some times forgets to release the memory. What do you mean be more specific? If you have any program to monitor memory usage you can see for yourself. I prefer CachemanXP but you can monitor that with task manager too. Though of course you cannot release memory through that :-p
