If someone knows how to get the music working that would be great, the SOUND EFFECTS do work on my computer though, just the music thanks!

The game uses CD audio tracks for music and the game CD has 7 audio tracks (+1 data track). No CD -> no music.

Those games obviously used waveform or MIDI music. Some might have had a combo: MIDI in the game data, with the option to switch to the higher-quality CD Audio tracks (Warcraft II, for instance).

Back in the 90's, the jump from floppies (1,44 MB) to compact disks (600-700 MB) left many developers with a lot of unused space on the game disks that they could take advantage of. Using it to store audio tracks was a fairly natural choice, since that gave the end user clean, crisp sound not distorted by any kind of lossy compression. Other games used the space to fit the music as raw waveforms (pretty much the same result), or include a large number of video sequences.

In order to have proper music in this game you need to have a complete binary image of the disc. By which I don't mean an ISO (the ISO format does NOT provide any means to store audio tracks) but at the very least BIN+CUE.

A friend and I got ignition working beautifully on Windows7 64bit in no time at all, but some luck was required.

How to get ignition running on windows 7 inside of 5 minutes:

1) Download and install nglide (http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide)

2) Download and install the Abandonia ignition zip.

At this point you have the Ign_win.exe that opens to a black screen.

3) Copy over the IGN_3DFX.EXE file from the installer directory to the game directory. (C:\Games\IGNITION)

At this point the game runs beautifully (running IGN_3DFX.EXE) , but no sound

4) Rename or delete the old GENERAL directory from your game directory
and copy the GENERAL directory from the installer directory.

Now the game runs perfectly with sound!

But no music

Default A moron

Sorry to bump, but having played this when I was younger, I decided to try install it on my win7. Using the instructions here, I got it working, but the framerate isn't capped, so everything runs ridiculously fast. How do I get the frames to stay at around 60 per second?

Test 1...2...3... and:

AB's game works fine in dosbox 0.73, default install.

Simply mount your CD drive as D:\ in dosbox with whatever CD in it and run the game with
maindos
from the game directory.
No probs here......

It apparently won't run if you don't mount a CD .....

[Edit]
Forgot to mention:
The dosversion (didn't test the Win version) is indeed ready to run in dosbox, no install needed. Sound and all are fine.

So, you're saying I should burn a CD of the game to listen to the music?

If you have a full CD image of the game then you can burn it to a CD and listen to the music. The archive on this site is a CDrip -> no music.

You can also mount a bin/cue image in DOSBox with imgmount if want to play the game with music, you don't have to burn a CD.
