When i try to run Princess Maker 2 and the Settlers games in DOSBox the window immediately closes. I checked to make sure that the files weren't read only and I have no idea what else to do. I have Win2k.

Since PM2 and S1 both work okay without DOSBox (if you don't mind the lack of sound, that is...) it hasn't really bothered me, but S2 doesn't work that way so _now_ it's a problem. LOL

Well, yes, that's certainly fluffy (or will be once I've figured out how to use it), but that doesn't address my main issue. Thanks for directing me to the fix for my _minor_ issue though.

Next please?

Check the DosBox config, especially the emulated soundcard. Make sure that the in-game setup has the same card type and parameters configured.

Other than that, VDMSound will work in a pinch - so go an learn how to use it, will you?

And this will fix the problem of the DosBox window shutting immediately when I try to run something in it? Or are you still talking about the lack of sound?

I'm talking about both.

DosBox seems to have issues with emulating one of the soundcards (been through that myself, but don't recall which exact one it was) and crashes, but selecting a different soundcard emulation will fix that in a pinch.

VDMSound is a less resource-hungry alternative to DosBox, unfortunately some games might have trouble running in it (the emulation is only partial, while DosBox emulates an entire machine).

Hm, I've tinkered around with it a little, got S1 to work but it was much slower than running it normally and the addition of the music wasn't an equivalent trade. Still can't get S2 to work, though now it spits out some error about a VESA-driver, whatever that is...
