I played Dragon Court for a few months. Glad I got over that phase. I also played Ragnarok Online for a while, since I was a GM on my friend's Vidar server, but there just weren't enough people on that server to keep it interesting. Only got an asl once every ten minutes ;D.

Your best bet is to check The MUD Connector, at http://www.mudconnect.com/: very little installation, no cost. The games are all text-based lack the consistency of coding you'll find in bigtime, for-pay sites, but they're free and very varied. You can find a broad range of themes and attitudes, and TMC helps find the ones that most fit your style.

I'm still debating whether to get World of Warcraft, as MMOs take so much time, and if you don't play it feels like you're getting ripped off by the subscription fee. :/

I played the beta of World of Warcraft, it's definitely worth your money. Its insanely addictive and fun, although I do see your point about not playing them being a rip off but I doubt you'll be bored of WoW quickly.

I have been in the US open beta, and now the EU final neta myself, so I know how addicting it can get. The problem is, you either spend too much time playing it, or if you don't, you feel like you're wasting your money, so it's kinda a lose - lose situation.
