well each part continues a new generation of the kings and princes, but i think you will be able to understand it without playing previous ones

"7 Days a Stranger" and the decreasing numeral series following are all quite good, provided your ok with a bit of horror and not detered by a bit of gore. I'm suprised no one thought to mention them yet.

Some more recent point & click adventure games: Post Mortem, Still Life, Still Life 2 (part of same series), Paradise (very similar to Syberia), The moment of silence, Sinking Island.
