@efthimios: I don't know if I've got win98SE. In C:\tools\ I can find a directory named win98se with a installer, but I don't know if it actually is installed.
Do this:
  1. Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System
  2. Check what System equals
  3. If it looks like This, you have Windows 98SE
And I don't care if I'm wasting my computer.

I wouldn't recommend it, I'm pretty sure it helps in some cases, though I can't remember when.

It's also needed sometimes when you install new hardware and it asks for the windows cd.. like when installing a LAN card or something

I have almost the same comp as you but I have 256 MB ram, I'd suggest getting no farther than Windows 2000 (What I have). Or if you do put XP on it, make sure you don't use all of those graphical things, put the style on classic and make sure your computer is set to performance.

I'm not allergic to Windows 98, but many programs this days don't work on 98 anymore and i was starting to ask myself "what if I'll choose XP ?"

If you have windows 98 and installed the service pack to upgrade it to the SE, then I can't think of any games or programs that do not work on windows 98. If a new game (that I am not aware of) needs windows xp, then probably the game won't run anyway on that configuration.
Efthimios posted same reasoning as I would.

I did not want to play games. I needed it for some programs. Nevermind, I'm not going to change it until I'll get a better computer.
