I think it'll be a case of when we're ten years or so away from the 00's, folks will be able to view it with a sharper focus and realize that there were plenty of good things to be found there. Since we just now got finished with it. We still have a pretty fresh idea of what all we had to put up with. Once we get far away enough from it, alot of the junk will get weeded out and forgotten and solid number of the gems that were around then will surface to give the 00's a little better face value.
Like Madvillain's Madvillainy? That's a pretty great record. Or Cat Power's You Are Free. Boards of Canada's Geogaddi and the newest Portishead. I think there's plenty of good stuff there. But they're so overwhelmed right now with all the Katy Perrys, Drakes, Jonas Brothers, etc. etc. Eventually plenty of the pointless stuff will pass and with any luck, plenty of the quality stuff will be well remembered. |

All comes down to what music you like but there is good music around today but you rarely hear it on mainstream radio stations that still play mostly commercial pop music garbage all day, years ago you had huge rock bands like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc, which were rarely heard on the radio but sold millions of records, you had progressive bands like YES, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Camel, loads of them again rarely heard on mainstream radio, I can still find new bands today you just have to dig around a bit which is why the likes of youtube is great for listening to new music.
Occasionally a band that's not pop filters through and has a hit single or album, Evanescence come to mind, "We're definitely a rock band, but the twist is that the band's music is epic, dramatic, dark rock” Amy Lee the singer about Evanescence's genre, not the type of band that often gets on the radio but a lot of people liked them when they did get air time. I don't listen to music on the radio or TV (not since the old grey whistle test finished) but it's never been easier with the internet to listen to new bands just type music into youtube and spend some time listening and I bet you find something you like I usually do and the bands may have been around for a few years already but they are new to me and way newer than the 70's bands I grew up with which I am pretty sick of listening to anymore You got to keep an open mind when it comes to music and ignore names and looks, just listen to the music. I found this band recently you may well have heard of them (I'm always a year or so behind new bands) this track only got to number 65 in the UK charts but is worth listening to. |

true words about yt - you can find nice gems there. I don't watch TV or listen to the radio for years now, too. it's just driving me nuts when I'm forced to (f.e. when I visit friends or something - tv is running in the background bah)... now most ppl here have 55"+ tv's so that shit will bang your head empty even faster - just horrible
my favourite youtube channel so far: http://www.youtube.com/bob42jh this music is happening now! Bob is the man! http://www.facebook.com/Bob42jh |
