Default Generic Err in DOSBox

Downloaded DosBox and Mario Teaches Typing.

Since I've never used DosBox before, I had some trouble, but after googling and reading several tutorials I got it down.

Everything has worked up until this point. After I type in CD MARIOT~1 it works, then when I type in mario.exe it looks like it's going to work ("Mario Teaches Typing, V1.1 pops up) then it doesn't.

It comes up with this:
"generic err
clue:'fontname is NULL' "

I have no idea what this means. I tried googling it and I couldn't find ANYTHING about it. I've read the README and tried searching for anything about this in these forums, but just couldn't find anything. Others who have played this game had no problems.

I tried changing the font on the game a few times, still didn't work. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix this? Thanks!

That directory name is not consistent with the 8.3 naming scheme DOS uses. It CAN result in problems with some applications.
Shorten the directory name to 8 characters, then try again.

Okay, now I just need help figuring out how to rename the directory. I tried the ren command and it didn't work, so I googled around and saw people talking about using a move command, but it says that's illegal.

Alright, I managed to change the directory name to MART and it's still popping up with the generic err message.

i tried to reproduce your error and i seriously couldn't

i tried using long directory names, mounting it in other than c drive, different versions of dosbox, changed filerights

what is the dosbox version you use? did you use different configuration files? are you using a front end? provide as many details as possible. also, does your mario teaches typing directory contain 165 files of their cumulative size 2 357 972 bytes?

also updaters: why the hell is default sound set to be pc speaker and not sound blaster?

Unhappy

I am using Dos Box version 0.74, and am having the same problem. I went through setup for Mario first, but had the "font name is Null" error again. The Super Solvers OutNumbered DOS games works very well, though.

Please help!

OS?
What unzipper?
Dosbox mount lines?
Inputs to run the game?
Setup choices?
Did you alter something in dosbox config?
Color of your underwear?
Also: delete game folder and start over from scratch, don't run setup and try to run the game. Just to know ....
Maybe re-download the game?

Details .... details .... details ....

Would really like to know where you peeps screw this up, because whatever I try that game runs fine in dosbox 0.74. I can't reproduce that error.

Input

cd mario

To run the game.
Hammer on ENTER between lines .
