Try changing your graphic setting to 256 colors (in Windows) before running the game.

In the case of Ascendancy for example it looks by the way the same if I run it from Windows directly.
And the mouse behaves in a very strange way. Playing around with compatibility and other options doesn't work either. |

Yes, I tried that, too, of of course.
But it doesn't help. Same effect, so matter if I start directly from Windows or use VDMSound |
