Default Sonny

This topic is made for the flashgames Sonny and Sonny 2 (and in case the series will be continued).

As I myself did not like the original Sonny, I wil try to make a ~walkthrough for Sonny 2 here personally. I would do it on Armorgames' forums, but that seems to be deactivated, that's why I do it here. Any help and comments much appreciated.

No walkthrough is necessary for this game, but it always makes people more confortable, and despite asking for it many times, no walkthrough exist since the game's relise. (Oh, Sonny 2 has an offline version too! Can turn out much faster playing.)

First about the sounds: there are syncrons, but the background-music is too loud, and there is no possibility to just listen on SFX (speeches and attack-effects). Still, it worth to damage your ears once to listen what the characters have to say.

There are 3 difficulties. I have no idea what are the differences between them - maybe just better AI?

Now onto stats: most are related to abilities, and as it is obvious, I won't discuss it. But speed requires mentioned as it determains the order of attacks: firstly it determines which group attacks first (you or the enemy), then in what order groupmembers deal out their actions.
Speed also determines theoreticaly your chance to miss with an attack, but I found that chance very low even without spending one point on speed, so skip it if you don't go for a speed-build I say.

There are 3 classes, each have individual abilitytabs, unlike in Sonny 1, so this is much better. I myself prefer the Biological build for its Toxicant ability, what incrises your attackpower, and above all gives incredible healing - and because of that if you use that ability you want LOW health, as the AI prefers to attack the target with the lowest health - this is true on both your teammembers and the enemies. As you'll be healed on a large scale, you won't mind to be damaged at all.

Now the AI cheats for your support. At the beggining of every turn you must decide on who you use an ability. If you target an enemy, who gets killed before you move, you'll miss to move - but if you kill an enemy and an ally still can move, it will always do an action still (also true this on healings - they don't cast unnecessary healings).

Now the AI-fiddling on your crew worth mentioning. Even in Phalanx-mode your crew will attack if none of you is wounded, what sometimes is a bad thing, but you have to live with it. In "tactical mode" (middle switch, neutral AI) Roald casts his healing when an ally is ca. at 1/3 of its health, and Verdaux when an ally is at 2/3 of its health. Be aware of this if you want to cast yourself healing (or use toxicant form).
The agressive mode makes your allies attack, but if someone of your crew is BADLY damaged, they still will cast healing. In agressive mode they will always attack the one with the lowest HP (the AI here includes damage reduction from shields at the actual turn too!).

Now on death during fights: don't worry. If at least one from your party stands at the end, your whole crew will survive the battle. Good to know, eh?

Oh, crew-members: you can actually have 3 along yourself:

Roald: he joins you at the beggining of Act2. I think he attacks with fire element. He has a standard melee attack (regaining focus), a melee attack what puts a debuff on the enemy (a little more damage it will receive), an attack what at a very low percentage can stun the enemy for 2 turns (while stunned the characters can make no actions), and a small healing what makes all healing on the target have greater effect for some turns.

Verdaux: only during the tutorial-fight you don't have him. He has a standard focus-regaining attack, an attack what with a percentage can remove a buff from the opponent, and a healing ability (what at a percentage can remove a debuff from the target I think), and I think I saw him once cast a spell that removed 2-3 debuffes from me. He uses electric element (at least for certain moves). I heared his healing-abilities are instinct-related, and his offensive abilities are strenght-related.

Felicity: she only joins you at ca. the half of Zone5 (last zone of the storyline, so pretty late). I have no idea what she does. To make her usable remove at least 2 pieces of equipment from her and give equipments in those places what boosts vitality (aka. health), or she won't serve you any good. I assume she use shadow-damage, she is a speed-build, and I heard she can actually be quite strong.

And for now 2 biological builds:
1) Infector:
this is a STR-based build, so put every point you have into STR.
The basic of this build is poison damage. So use these abilities (have abilities at maximum level if I don't state otherwise) in this order in fights:
- sample blood
- toxicant form
- infect (3 times in a row)
- break
- rinse and repeat.
Besides these abilities you have to have these: acidic blood, integrity (lvl 2 to never run out of focus). The damage-output is 2-3K (at endgame of course) per attack with infect, and you do ca. 1K with the rest of the attacks.
The first skill you should max is acidic blood it seems. As far I could figure this out, that rises your attackstrenght with infection to the skies.

2) Speed Bio:
- toxicant form
- shadow blend
- agile exposure
- withdrawal.
I heard this build deals out incredible damage (10-15K per attack with withdrawal) if you can put the combo together - but sucks if you can't. Crystalisation is much advised to have with this build as an extra to buy time. Still keep this build in mind if you will need to respec for Zone 6 and/or 7.

Ah, respec: I did not respec in Sonny 2 ever, but be cautious with that option: in Sonny 1 I lost statpoints when respecced. (This might be taken out as you have to pay money for respecing in Sonny 2.)

Last thing for now: "The Tape" achievment you'll get when you'll finish Zone1 on any difficulty with any class.

I started to play the game on "Challenging" difficult, and I experienced some differences already. Sadly I can not yet present a full list of fights yet (I started to make notes on them at zone 4 only), but here are some strategy-advices for "Easy" diffculty, and some more things:

I heared there is a maximum level restriction (lvl 30). I myself finished the game at lvl 25, but I made several training-fights (good for additional money and experiences).

Now on Easy most of the times relying on pure brute force will work, there are only two figths, when it is at least advisable to have certain tactical skills. One of it is against the Baron. He has annoying abilities (like the curse what makes you loose 10% or your health at every turn for 10 turns), but he relies heavily on using his focus. So take his focus away. The best part is, that his focus-regaining ability damages him at the same time, so spaming focus-stealing on him is the cheese-cutter solution. (All the fights on Easy are possible to be solved by just brute force, but that requires not a little luck.)
The second fight where you can have problems is Clemon (zone 3's last boss). He has a tendency to cast a curse on you what turns all healing you take turn to damage - and when you're in Toxican-form, that is painfull and potencially lethal. So having the same type of skill yourself and casting it to redo the effect can be a lifesaver.

Now there are two "achievements" that can be done on Challenging difficulty. The first one is obvious, and can be done easily if you have time to level up if you want, as you're allowed to do that. (This is Black Magic for what you have to kill Clement w/o any teammates.)
The next achievemnt is called "pacifist". For this as I undertsand from comments on the topic is to not deal yourself damage by direct contacts on the Hydra, or any of the two FireClaws. But you can cast damage-after-time spells (like envenom). The Fire Claws are sensitive on ice, poison and electricity, the Hydra is resitant to those elements. You are also allowed to heal yurself or your party. You won't be blamed for damage your companies do either. For this fight do not forget that you are allowed to respec!

For "Heroic" difficulty there are 3 achievements. For "All Star" you have to beat the game with all three classes - but hang a second, do it with two builds what you don't like that much, then come back one more. When you beat Legend, you will finish the game also with the third class. Also unlocking "Legend" means you will also open along the way "Predator". So this means 2 less time you have to play the game, ok? (Also if you go for Legend try not to buy anything in shops, not spending skillpoints as long as you can solve things without them, as your resources will be limited, so you can't allow yourself any mistakes.)

The last thing I wish to tell here is the fights in Zone 1
0) this is actually the tutorial level. You can skip this, but don't do that if you try to go for the Legend title, as this gives you experience too.
1) prison guard
2) 2 prison guard
3) brutal convict + agile convict
4) brutal convict + cunning convict + agile convict
5) 2* prison guard + doctor leath
6) twisted experiment
7) the warden
8) Frankie + doctor hedger
9) zpci elite
10) Felicity

Now in "Challenging" difficulty in Zone 1 I had "problem" (aka brute force was risky) against The Warden. It hit hard - but he needed some focus to do that. So I suggest being able to null his foxus.

Zone 2 seems to take a little longer then I expected, so I insted put here zone 4 and 5.

Zone 4:
1) tunnel beast
2) Vivian Vixen - although she seems to be low on healt, all your attacks deal only 10% damage to her
3) Gregor
4) Shunny
5) the magical monkey
6) mokoshotar - when it turns one of you a wolf, attack
7) bunny
8) flower zombie
9) 2* fire claws + hydra

Zone 5:
1) riot police - this type of enemy has a nasty attack, so keep an ability to prevent him using it
2) riot police + blood hound
3) 2* secret police
4) police colonel
- this is the point where Felicity joins you
5) 2 bllod hound + caretaker
6) 2* riot police + android guard
7) 2* android guard + specialist
8) 2* city council - you NEED high damage here (and after this fight - just in case you have some curiosity-build), and also try to damage them equally, because if one dies the other gains a nasty ability (=1 hit instakill per some rounds)
9) 2* blood hound + specialist
10) 2* android guard + secret police
11) guardian cannon + mayor - the mayor's abilities do not require focus, but he will try to regenerate his focus if you drain him dry. He also uses an ability what switches the healing/damage what affects the target for a short period.

So I've finished Zone 2 - maybe the hardest zone of all if you ask me. Here are the fights and my experiences with them with the Infectro Build on Challenging difficulty:

1) frost zombie
2) Roald + insurgent - after 1 or 2 turns the fight ends and Roald joins to you
3) 2* frost zombie + frost terror - with all the abilities they cast on you they are annoying. The Frost terror is the worst with its stunning ability, so steal his focus right at our first attack. Also as the zombies will start to regenerate, you might want to focus on him (while your crew attack a zombie), so when you team realises zombies are not that easy to kill, you can sooner eliminate another threat.
4) knight
5) priest + knight
6) frost lord
7) mage + knight + priest - useful knowledge is, that priests stuns themselves for lots of turns if you steal their mana. Mages on the other hand get a full heal once in a fight when their health turns low - but you can prevent it by stunning them at the right time.
8) 2* mage + knight
9) Cult Leader
10) The Baron - steal his focus, especially when he has "Holy Scar" on him - and hope he'll cast that focus-regeneration that will kill him (he might use another ability unfortunatelly)
11) 2* armored hound + zpci elite - the zpci can have a brutal dmagaeincrisement, and the whole group deals hugh damage anyway, so if they gang on you, you'll die. If your party miss too much, you'll die. Darn annoying fight.
12) zpci sniper + zpci medic + captain Hunt - first and foremost kill the sniper, and while doing that, never ever let him shoot when he has both damage-incrising buffs on him. If you manage to kill him, the rest is acceptable.

Too much blah blah blah, and if you skip all the blah blah it becomes a complete mindless click click click flash game.

However, not all is bad, of course, the game scenery is swell done, nice graphics and effects.

Modern times I guess.
I'm probably too old to get into this kind of gaming.

0: intro
1: talk talk cry talk talk graphics talk talk,
2: boring jrpg generic turn based combat
3: walk map
4: goto 1 12390482309 times
5: outro

it's been like that since the times of final fantasy

Ok guys, I understand you don't like it, and maybe you don't like "newbies", but this is a "favourite newbie" for me. And that's why I put this here. (And because when I tried to register to Armorgames, I encountered 404error.)

But isn't all games about "blablabla, and then mindless clikclikclik"?
And actually I LIKE the "blahblahblah"-part in everything.

Don't be so defensive, none bashed you.

It's simply a case of 'each his own', different taste etcetera.

You shouldn't be surprised that on a mainly dos gaming forum you don't get much positive responses.

At least, if I replied to your post it means I actually read them posts, it's also your posts that made me try the game.

The fact that I didn't like it doesn't mean a lot, is it?

I would even dare to state: please continue your postings, maybe someone will like that game, ya never know.

One advise, you may take or leave it, cut down on that 'you don't like newbies' rambling....

I didn't play Sonny 2 yet, I still need to finish the first one. And I'm in a phase when playing it becomes very repetitive... the fact that I don't like the visual style and the "meh" plot ("...so, okay, there are those, like, alien mutant zombies from space, and, ya know, you are undead, but kinda cool undead, not braaaainzzz one, and...") doesn't help either.

I'm fairly new to this jRPG combat variation (I only watched my buddy play FF series, LOL), while I miss the tactical element of movement, it wouldn't be bad - if not for the stupid AI, both enemy and ally. Not going for the killing blow when the enemy is nearly dead and may restore his halth next turn? C'mon!
