Hi all. Nice site!

I'm trying to capture screenshots in SSI's Soldiers at War but I'm running into some problems on two machines, 1) laptop with Win98 and 2) desktop w/WinXP.

On the laptop, I can't seem to get the screen capture keys to be recognized. I've tried Gadwin PrintScreen and IrfanView so far.

The regular Windows "Print Screen" key *does* grab a screenshot but it looks horrible (colors are all wrong) when I paste it into Paint. When I try using the key mapped to Gadwin or IrfanView, nothing happens.

On the desktop, the screen capture keys work fine and I am able to capture a perfect screenshot with Irfanview but, unfortunately, I can't get the game to change resolution! Besides, I really want to run this on the laptop--I'm using the desktop just for test purposes.

Anybody have any clue what's going on with the laptop? It's a Thinkpad T20, P3 700, 128 Megs RAM, S3 video with 8 megs RAM, Win98 with latest Direct X 9.

Thanks!

Hi Sakar

I've recently been told how to do screenshots.

If you can play then game in DosBox, then pres Crtl & F5. That takes a good screenshot. Then there should be a subfolder in your DosBox folder called 'snaps'. Your screenshots will be in there. k:

Does this help at all.

And if that don't work, try fraps. Takes video AND screenshots.

Certain games (like Age of Kings) do that when you press print screen. The only way to prevent that from happening without a program like dos-box is to run it in a window, instead of fullscreen. It is most likely due to a multilayering or custom color palette not used by paint.

I suggest dos-box.

Thanks for the help.

I've tried Fraps but it doesn't support 8-bit color.

Does DosBox work with DirectX games? I'll give it a try if it does.

Dos box runs dos-games mostly. Win32 programs will probably not work on dos-box. At least, the ones that were made for windows in mind

Bummer.

Well, I suppose I can play it on my XP desktop since IrfanView seems to work fine for capturing the screenies. I just wish I could figure out why the capture key doesn't work on my laptop....

Digital camera can help too... LOL

If you don't have one, then you can try SnagIT.

Finally got it working on my XP desktop with IrfanView. I had to set the game to run in Win98 compatibility mode and in 256 colors which allowed me to set the resolution in-game. IrfanView does the rest. k:

Now if I could just get the game to recognize IrfanView's hotkey on my Win98 laptop then I'd be able to play in my bedroom while my wife watches those ridiculous reality shows!!
