Max Payne wasn't designed to run under XP.

The problem I'm facing is that when a want to start a game it throw's me right back to windows and shuts down the game. I can get in the menu but that's about it.

Do you get any error messages? What exactly is your graphics card? how much RAM do you have in your system?

BTW, I hope the game is an "original" and not a pirated copy, in which case anything can cause the problem.

Apart from the obvious reinstalling the game, have you tried running the game without anything else in the background? Like anti virus, firewall, icq, msn, etc.

Check if the game supports/needs any special resolution and change your desktop to that one. If you have any joysticks/wheels/gamepads, remove them since they might conflict with the game. Though I sense it has something to do with graphics, hmmm, have you got the latest Direct X installed? 9.0c I think it is.
I don't have the game so I can't test it. If none of the above helps, you might want to check with the FAQ at the publisher's site.

Check the thread at http://www.techsupportforum.com/comp...c/41974-1.html - it looks like some others are having the same problem as you are.

I have the game and there is a crack for it inside, but it dont work so there was only one option - installed 1.5 patch and got a crack for ver1.5
Now it works. The only reason I can think of it not running - bugs.

I think that the problem is with ati's video cards, because i run the game on win xp without problems (with a graphic's card integrated). And when i run the game with a radeon 9200 se, the game doesn't works, it shutts down after the loading menu
p.d. (sorry for my english, it's not good :P ).
