If you intend (sp?) on getting a new card next year and stay with Windows Vista (aka new directX) then even a x1900xt would be a waste of money. Just wait for the graphics cards that fully support DX10 (or whatever the new name is).
Gotta ask-- How do you stay with Windows vista, when it has yet to ship?

Static electricity precautions:

Switch the computer off, but leave it plugged in. This will leave the metal chassis of the case connected to ground. Do all tasks with only one hand, and keep the other hand on the chassis. For tasks that require both hands, ground yourself before you do it. DO NOT handle static sensitive devices if you are not seated and freshly grounded. Walking across a floor, depending on humidity and floor covering, can build up a potential of several hundred volts.

A static protection wristband can be improvised with some wire, a pair of alligator clips, some tinfoil, and a watchband. You take off your watch and wrap your wrist in tinfoil. You hold the tinfoil band in place by wearing your watch over top of it. One clip connects the wire to the tinfoil, and the other clip fastens the wire to something grounded.

For the truly paranoid, after opening the case, with the cord still plugged in, you place the back of your hand (IMPORTANT: the back of the hand, NOT the palm) on the bare metal chassis to verify that your grounding wire is not carrying a voltage (if it is, you will feel it).

I am very sorry sir, terrible terrible sorry for my english sir. Please don't hit me! Thankfuly not many people misunderstood me (or acted like, nevermind).

In case you need further explanation, if he wants to stay with the windows platform and upgrade to windows Vista next year (when, or close to then, IIRC) is going to buy a new PC, he might as well stay away from all DX9 series of graphics cards, including the top x1900xt, and wait for the new series with full support for DX10.

Would it be anything more rlbell? A banana perhaps?

I have decided myself to get a new graphics card once DX10 is out since it will support all new features of DX10.

In a year they'll have a DirectX11, which is the time I'm gonna buy my iron box. No need to worry - I'll ask your expertise when I will have the loot. LOL
