In another forum I'm visiting from time to time the problem was solved by nominating special chat-mods who kept the chat clean. Perhaps a good idea for this one, too. Or a chat you have to sign in for (and every account is checked, only members of the forum who are trustworthy [whatever this will mean] are allowed to participate).

Yeah there was an IRC channel actually for a week, and some people (kon-tiki,taikara,chickenman) were on it, Timpsi was in charge of it, but it kinda died out...
