well i installed a virtual pc from microsoft... and although it seems as a nice enough program (i managed to run the shadow of the horned rat), the gameplay is pretty laggy... i can only assume that i do not have enough system resources at my disposal... if anyone has any alternatives...?

There are other virtualization programs ailvaible. Run a search with for "Virtual PC" in Technical Stuff, there is at least one thread on the subject (which happens to have been started by myself).
