Should do. More RAM definitely wouldn't hurt, that's your bottleneck at present. However, I wouldn't say it was worth the cost of the game - it's not great. HL2 is, however, and Steam isn't as bad as some people make out. You only need to be online to validate your HL2 install, not to play it singleplayer.

Steam actually makes HL2 run faster because it specifies where the files are before you play the game, if you play the wonder stand alone version (you can get some crappy pirated cracks) it runs dreadfully, it was meant to run on Steam, and it does much better on Steam.

I'd skip Doom 3 since it's a bit boring, you could buy Far Cry or Painkiller instead though, they're probably cheaper and more fun anyways.

:thanx: I will do that and maybe some day when doom 3 gets down to like $10 bucks I'll buy it.

BTW, Does anybody know anything about the single player mode in call of duty, weather or not it is good?

Yep, Call of Duty has some pretty good singeplayer, although if you have the chance, multiplayer is also very good as well.

nothing will convince me to use steam ever again (my hl install was fine until i installed it when i was a hl player - after that, it just went downhill)
and as for hl2 running like sh*t without steam, mine actually runs pretty much perfect (even though its a pirated standalone version) so my mind can't be changed about steam. i would agree with your other recommendations (far cry+painkiller) far cry is greatin general and painkiller is preetty hectic
and HappyGamer - in regards to CoD, it's a v. good SP game but unsure about MP as i haven't played MP yet

I know nothing about steam, but I was wondering could it be your computers interaction with the softeware. Not that the software itself.

Steam causes problems on older PCs that don't use at least Windows XP.
