Never played it but I thought this game was crap compared to its sequel.

It actually had me giggling like a schoolgirl when I was playing it k: Only thing, I had to turn down the DOSBox cycles to around 300 otherwise I'd keep crashing into the first available mountain :P

I think this game is nearly 21 years old, not 11 as mentioned in the review.
Welcome to the zeros.

Think about classics and tell me what comes to your mind. There should be Tetris, Space Invaders, Pacman, Sokoban, Alley Cat, Bouncing Babies and - YES - Sopwith.
Hey - you forgot... you forgot Bruce Lee

Just kidding - excelent game k:

Still today, over 11 years after it was created, there is a huge fan-lobby dedicating all their free time to building new levels and new clones of it.
What clones of it exactly are there? And are any of them freeware? I love this game, but i've played it to DEATH.

That is correct. I've changed it. Swiss probably made a little typo and didn't notice. The one and two key are awfully close to each other :P

Sopwith is one of those Highly Recommended Ultimate Abandonware Classics* that everyone should have played at least once.

My brother and I used to contest in who can make the best looking stunts (crashing optional), had lots of fun with it

* where highly recommended in my personal dictionary reads the description 'with a lot of sentimental value'

Hi,
I played both Sopwith I & II to death and back on moms good old XT machine. Sopwith one was almost unplayable, but I became a total master op sopwith II. I recall reaching level 9 (or something) on one occasion, which was two levels beyond the point where your plane flies so fast it becomes impossible to make a looping
I still played this when I had flashy games like hero's quest and so on. Incredibly addictive. Heartily recommended.

Cheers,
Lodewijk

Waaahhhh ... did I say it was from 1994 ??? Sorry ... I know better. And I LOVE this game. With only one level it's quite easy to play this to Death but during the last 21 (!) years I copied it over and over again to my PC and over and over again I loved it ...

And a second sorry that I didn't mention Bruce Lee - hey, I didn't notice "Wizards of Wor" either ...
