What exactly do you mean by "ripping" a game?
Sounds like Warez talk to me. Is this game abandoned first of all? |

Ripping a game is extracting all the essential files from a cd-copy of a game onto the PC so it's playable, rip versions are usually able to run without certain files like music or movies, and this greatly decreases their size, but in the end, there might be compatibility problems.
Most larger games on Abandonia are CD-Rips, i.e. MDK. I can't believe you don't know what a CD-Rip is Eagle, . And it's definetly not warez talk, it can be used for warez, but that's up to the person who decides to take it into their own use. I don't know any CD-ripping programs, at least not for free.

Well, he obviously doesn't, but that's why he started this thread in the first place, isn't it?

No, he knows what is a rip (or think he does), what he is asking for is how to do it.
Anyhow, I'll move this thread since it have nothing to do with troubleshooting. |

Ok I know what a ripped game is,,I have a few already, but I downloaded all of those, I have a full game on cd that somebody wants, and yes it's been abandoned. The problem is I don't know how to go about making a ripped game myself, I don't know what files that I need to find or what to do with them. And sorry about where I started this thread, I wasn't sure of where to put it. I just wanted to help somebody and so far I have just gotten a lot of flak, if this is what helps most of the time, then I think I'm done with trying to help.

Sorry, bud, but it's practically individual for every game. Usual method is a loop of logics, trial & error. A lot depends on certain integral game files, and what you consider to be neccesary.
Note that there might be some unneccesary files left on the CD as well. Most newer games are un-rippable. Some older games as well. I have done (L,T,O) rip of Earthsiege II, taking the size down to 100-odd MB (removal of Win3.x drivers, French and German language versions, extra demos, music, movies replaced with a "broken comms" one that was the smallest) from a full CD. This was done more out of pure curiosity, but worked in the end. |

Just for the record ripping games is not illegal. As long as that rip is not distributed to anyone (which is the case here) you can rip your own games to your hearts content.
But as this is for the purposes of distributing a game that is still sold so I'm going to close it.
