Default Railroad Tycoon Deluxe

Having yet another problem with RRT. When running in Dosbox, I cannont lay 'angled' track, that is, track going nw, sw, ne, se. I put on numlock, I hold the shift key, nothing, zilch.

And if I play it in XP, using the keypad always lays track without holding shift.

I have problems with other games as well, but I'd like to figure this one out first as RRT was one of my very favorite games way back when.

Thanks in advance.
