After reading a few reports about the new improved DRM for Vista, I started thinking and looking for a Linux, not seriously since I want the windows game to work, but still looking. So, a friend told me that I could install one linux, say KUbuntu, and try the program cedega. Which apparently makes windows games work under linux. I am currently downloading ubuntu 5.04 and in the next couple of days I wil install it to my old laptop drive for some test drive. If I see that my games work, I might consider saying goodbye to windows....
I don't know if Dosbox and vdms sound will work under linux though. Many popular windows games do work under cedega, and I mean MANY, so we will see.
Any comments?

well dosbox runs fine on linux.
Perharps even better then under windows.

cedega runs quite some windows titles, but not always the older ones. So having the regular wine is handy as well( cedega is an extended wine)

vdmsound doesn't run under linux.

Hmm, I wonder then if it would be possible to run dosbox and neutralizing the speed emulation part, or more.

I thought that Cedega was WINE with a new name, not a different program.

Thanks for the answers.

BTW, off topic but I don't think it is worth it to start a new thread for it. Is there a table or something where it shows (about DOSBox) how many cycles are what speed of CPU? For example 3000 = 286 @ 16, 7000 = 386 @40 etc.

well speed will comparable to windows maybe a tiny bit faster.

there is no such table as dosbox it's way with cycles isn't comparable to mhz on a real pc.
Futher the maximum amount of cycles actually depends on the game executed (how complex the used instructions are).

I don't understand why linux users do not talk much about ability to play windows games.

Thanks for the info.

Using DOSBox without frot end is not that hard. All you need is to master basics of DOS.
