Except for DOS maybe, all the game developers that're still around now said they hated DOS.

Not the games, I mean the DOS thing itself.

I had to use it for years before I got a proper PC, it was horrible.
I enjoyed the game with the two monkeys in the city throwing explosive bananas at eachother though

About configuration: I made a menu-based autoexec and config.sys, no ems: press 1, ems: press 2, cd/nocd: press 'whatever' aso.

About directories: A menu-based batch do wonders. From the root, I ran (eg) games.bat, Underworld, press 1.... you get the idea.

It made dos a little easier. FTR, I didn't get a pc until win98 came along. So I never really got into the DOS issues. I only used the boot disk (a modified rescue disk) when I wanted to play the oldies.

I don't know... I liked dos... many nice games can run very easly on it. It's even nicer to have both dos and windows... windows has a better browsing system. You don't have to type 'dir' or 'dir/w'.

Too bad that in XP you can't enter dos so easly as in 98. Now all we have is dosbox. :wallbash: It's nice but I still prefer the original thing!

Hmm... the golden age of gaming is from 1950 to well - now and infinity.
That's for the pc era...

C64, Amiga and DOS 6.22.

I was never a big fan of console gaming

You just convinced me that I never want to see the original DOS interface again.

I'll have to say that the golden age ended in the start of the 90's... I think the peak was during the SNES and Sega Megadrive period... lots of games and there was still space for pc, C64 and others...
Today you see that it's a fight to survive and you lose a lot of gameplay for graphics.

Tried some NES and SNES games on emulators - not bad. Sad they weren't remade for DOS.

I must say I enjoyed DOS, typing in commands was fun for me...
