Archade type games on a 486? Pinball, some of those top-down car racing games, pac-man, donkey kong, pong, snake, tower of hanoi, a fancy chess-ish game and backgammon for two players... simple games that won't demand a whole afternoon for one game only. Quick games that allow more than one kid a day, you get my point.

there was a pc port of street fighter 2 but it sucked.
If you could source some more 486's / pentiums set up a basic network and run multiplayer doom or C&C - thats the most fun! I mean you gotta be able to source some more machines of that age, they are just thrown away now! |

I'd say new games are better (Some of them, hardly all), but the old games have the nostalgic value as well.

Ha ha, I turned my old PC into a cabinet, built an arcade console for it and everything. Basically, it just served to play Metal Slug, a ton of old arcade staples and a really screwily controlled Half Life.
sort of looks like this |

Okay, you gots a 486. Well it just so happens that when 486s were the thing I was plaing games on them. What was I playing?
1. Star Control 2. Captian Comic and Captian Comic 2 3. Star Goose 4. Rampage 5. OMF 2059 6. Doom 7.Alien Carnage/Haloween Harry 8. Heck, anything released by Apogee. 9. Ugh 10. Oh yea, Descent. How'd I forget that one? There's a small list to get you started. Let me know if you need more. Or better yet, feel free to browse the Arcade or Action tabs on Abandonia's main site. |
