Okay, I'm getting some flack about my avatar. Let me explain. Some years ago I made a little game. More a proof of concept than an actual game in the end. In it players took 1 of 6 ships, rotated them in the plane, and shot at each other. The shots were affected by the gravity fields of planets that were randomly placed to trip you up.
So I designed several planets to shoot around. I tried to make them visually interesting because that's the sort of guy I am. Since I feel that if you're capable you should make your own Avatar, and I had this, I wanted to choose one of these planets that I felt could stand on it's own for my Avatar. However, without the stars in the background I see why people don't get "Planet X". Maybe I'll edit it. Maybe I'll choose another one. What do you think? Which of these planets would you have chosen for my Avatar? <div align="center"></div> |

I say the fact that it's an avatar you made yourself more than makes up for actual design. That planet-x is personal, something only you could/should have, and I like that. Mine is a cheeky theft... (oh, and it's Tommy Cooper if anyone wondered).
If you change your avatar, keep it one you made yourself, and sod us and our shots at it. Oh, and planet x also appeared in a Godzilla movie... :brain:

Is the game you made considered abandoned?

And what about the flag? Was there a golf course on Planet X? LOL
Well, I didn't know what it was but I knew you had made it yourself, in another discussion you expressed your opinion that one must use only self-made stuff as his avatar. Planet Doughnut would also be cool but wouldn't be any more obvious to people who haven't read this thread. Planet X is fine. Don't worry, avatars must be personal and even if they don't recognize a planet (they won't) it's clear that it's a piece of ground with grass and a flag, which is... er, you avatar. Space combat with gravity pulling planets... Since I know you're a big fan of SC I wonder where on Earth did you take that idea from... k:

@abi - The torid planet was a close pick for second.
@Quintopotere - High resolution? Na, that's the original resoluion. This isn't an art piece, it's a rip from my game. @gregor - No, the game I made is considered crap. The interface was wonky and it was mostly incomplete. Like I said, it was more of a proof of concept. I could upload it here if you really wanted to, but you'd probably be better served with a few screen shots. @giantmidgit - The avatar wasn't so much getting bashed as there were a couple of "I dont get it"s. @japofran - Yup, the flag is for golf. Don't know why I put it there, but there it is. And yes, the game was Star Control influenced. However, SC's influence was mostly about look and design. The game idea came from a old Pascal program I found way back. And, by the way, everybody. Did you know my real life name is Joe? |
