Creating two partitions on your HD can still help you then. It will allow you to format the smaller (100MB should suffice) partition as the DOS version you have would like.

there the problem comes in... MS-DOS refuses to reconize my HDD's

Hey, you don't need DOS on that second partition, Win98 will suffice for almost all old games, believe me, just start them not from Explorer, but from this Dos-prompt, found in start -> programs -> accessories or near there somewhere.
If you need detailed description of how to make two partitions and what install in which sequence, just PM me and I'll send you e-mail describing that.

IIRC, you can use an application called partition magic to do that.. i used that application once and you can even switch NTFS to FAT32 and vice versa. and i definitely agree that win98 is the best for gaming..
