You have to wait until the finish of the season, to see the players growing in their stats.

As you're able to see on the site of BMP on AB, there's no windows-sign in the compability-section. That means it is not possible or at least not recommended to run the game under XP.
Try DosBox(left icon) or VDMS (right icon).
How to use these is explained several timeas in the forum and the main page.

The game works in xp,but in the file call BMP, you have to go to the proprities of the file, and put to run in a compatibily with win 95. k:

You must train hard in order to become better.
So set the training intensity as high as possible. Your players will get injured a little bit more often but the skill improvement will be much more useful. This will also help you to win your matches.
Send your team to the "crown fitness centre" or "teardrop college" as often as possible.

It takes a few years to get youth players, but they are worth it. They are not only very valuable, they also have cheap contracts.

@little fish:
In the versions I played the players didn't get better at the end of the season, they improved continously.
Is the version you get here really that different ?

That's because they're so exhausted.
Keep this factor in mind. Your players won't be able to dominate a whole match.
You can see the level of exhaution in the players list at the right border. Hover your mouse over the + - or 0 and you'll see it displayed at the bottom of the list.
