Is there a way of simulating a joystick? I've wanted to try X-Wing Collector's Edition from a friend, but it won't let me start the game, due to not having a joystick.

If you mean in DOSBox, I think so, just map whatever keys you want as the virtual joystick's axes and buttons. You can access the mapper by pressing Ctrl+F1.

That doesn't work. It needs a controller for that, and it doesn't accept the keyboard or mouse.

No, in Windows.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(_r.u.s.s. @ Aug 23 2007, 06:11 PM) </div>None of them actually emulate a joystick. They are only for games where you want to play with a joystick, but the games do not support it.

Yes, of course, there are many ways of stimulating the joystick...

Oh...
...you meant like...alright.

Try the driver mentioned here,

although you'll perhaps still need a joystick to control anything ingame, dunno...

EDIT:

or perhaps GlovePIE has some options for IDing and acting as a joystick...

EDIT2:

And, this one was referred to on pirate bay (of all places):

Quote:
If you don´t have a Joystick you can use this little program: http://ppjoy.bossstation.dnsalias.or.../PPJoyMain.htm
which I have been told works well. it lets you simluate a joystick with your mouse.

That seems like what you're looking for right?

It requires a joystick. I need something to simulate a joystick by using a mouse.

Oh, maybe I should have posted a reply instead.

Anyways, that PPjoy thing indeed has the possibility to control a virtual joystick via mouse, or keyboard if you like.

Install a virtual joystick from the "driver-window" and then run the ppJoyMouse.exe-file (from the 'not-installed archive').
