I have played burntime dozens times since 90s. Recently I found a trick to buy from any merchant for free. Here is the trick:
1. Buy everything you want from a merchant using food, any food (meat, snake, rat, maggot)
2. Re-buy the food from merchant using this formula:
- meat can be re-bought using snake
- two meat -> meat and snake
- meat + rat -> meat
- meat + snake -> meat + rat
- snake -> 2 maggots
- 2 maggots -> rat
The principle here is to re-buy using lower total DR (daily ration).
3. In the end the merchant will only has 1 rat which can not be re-bought using lower food value. But if you also buy another item from the merchant which you do not need, you can re-buy that rat using that item. In the end you will get what you want without cost.

I've played this game several times, but i've never found the metal detector. Does anybody know in which area of the map it will spawn?
