An admin could (and should, please) add the options of pure Yes and No.

*edits* actually, he ruled well under the immense pressure from basically the whole world. Sanctions were just unfair and killed thousands. The whole UN was to blame, but it's still been done.

I think most of the people that engage in "anti-America" supporting are mostly the ones that know almost nothing of the situation, either that or they just think that the most "popular" country in the world isn't deserving of that title.

America is a great place to live, and I won't hear any more of it. Unless you are those poor people who have been recently struck by the effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, there is no reason to think that America is a horrid place to live.

Done.

As to Saddam's ruling "techniques" there were cruel and he should be punished for them but that is really the only way to rule a country as politically and religiously segragated as Iraq. Without the culture of fear the Saddam created the country would desend into violence and anarchy, as many parts of it has now, since he was removed from power.

It's not the first time I hear the definition "American Dream". What's that mean? Something like "Communism"?
Well...no. The definition is here.
To live better then your parents did... That's the American dream? Then I'm personally very much against it - such a state of mind can not last longer then a few generations at the most!
First generation - simple farmers.
Second generation - big successful farmers
Third generation - semi-intelectual living in suburbia
Fourth generation - rich middle class
Fifth generation - filthy rich, and powerful
Sixt generation - Fixed on world domination???
Seventh generation - mass depression because no body can be more successful then the parents - the country goes to hell.

Havell - More like all of it has now... it's a shame, it used to be a first-world country and now it's been ruined in a mere year.

No, the American Dream is something more like being succesful period.
You get a nice house, a pool, great wife, good kids.
It's basicly to have your life a pure vanilla flavor while you sit back.

I wrote a 20 page essay on the American Dream last year.
The American Dream pretty much means becoming succesfull in life by working hard and enjoying your work. While quite a noble concept (if you look at it in it's timeframe) it has become rather outdated since you can no longer just grab a piece of land and start working, you need an education... and that often doesn't come free.

As for killing Saddam, well if Iraq is going to continue decending into civil war Saddam should be re?nstated... a bit like with emperor Hirohito.

Sadam Hussein was/is a bastard, but he really was able to keep the fanatics and others at bay, the question is, is the crime that Bush made by invading Iraq and killing many innocent people, while emerging the land into chaos, but (possibly, the constitution isn't drafted yet) bringing freedom and equality a bigger crime than Sadam's dictatorship and also slaughtering of innocent people, with order but suppresion and no freedom...
I'd say it's a tie...

No not really.
Although what George did was for a supposed "good cause" he didn't create half as many casualities and the president's current actions pale in comparison to what Hussein did.

It speaks of a certain anti-Americanism that's all the rage with the younger set nowadays, especially the ones who think they know "what's really going on" because they saw it in a Michael Moore movie*.* Well, I'm sick of it.
Don't you just hate being the devil's advocate?

I was struck by the rather limited choices, as well.

"Judge Saddam Hussein..." For what? For that he was a leader of his country and ruled it? Maybe in his specific manner
How machiavellian. But it strikes me how easily you forget the atrocities he commited.
Well, Israel messing with Palestine quite long time too, you know...
Let's not judge things of which we don't know a damn. What do you know of Saddam Hussein, if we talk about him? What you've been told from your leaders? Come on!
