Great RPG/strategy hybrid, came out about 4 years ago. Set in the Runescape universe, you're the leader of a tribe, with literally dozens of options involving all aspects of control. You can attack other tribes, explore, send members on god quests, choose the members of your tribal council, build up tribal defenses, reallocate land, build temples, trade, seek allies and favors, etc.

KoDP also has 500+ plots and mini-plots which are randomized in any game. You have 4-6 actions you can take when one pops up; none are bad, but all depend upon how you're playing this particular tribe of yours. Each member of your tribal council will offer their advice, sometimes in contradiction to one another, and each possesses a range of stats that improve over time and affect many dealings of your tribe.

The game didn't do well because they sold it only on the Web. As a company with no name branding, that was fatal. Yet the game received enormous praise from the press. I gave it an extremely high rating when I initially reviewed it in a magazine, shortly after it appeared. I'm still playing it. Of course, I'm also still playing Hidden Agenda and Darklands, but KoDP is one of the most addictive titles I've ever come across.

This is the best site about the game, with tons of screens. This is the homepage for it, and I think they still may offer a demo version.

Hey, I've seen those screenshots before! Didn't know that game's still sold, though.

A-Sharp is still selling copies--and the company deserves every penny they can get. It really hasn't dated much.

One more thing, in the scroll of honor it said I only get 100 years of Shogun. The guy in first place got 300 years. How do I get more years? LOL
A: Get as many Samurai, as large a fief, and as many provinces as you can.
B: Get as much honor as you can by fighting random encounters.
C: Drill your troops until you can drill them no more.
D: March all over the map and take over all enemy provinces, one enemy at a time.

The title carries a lot of power. 's Not simple at all. Hearing it once, you'll remember it until you're getting amnesia. But yeah, this's a game worthy of doing a remake of, if anybody can get the same or improved feeling in it, which's probably the hardest part.
Couldn't agree more. The only games that have a similar feeling in them (to me) are KOEI games like the Romance of Three Kindgoms saga (or maybe Genghis Khan, where you can actually have family...). But, SOS is so simple that is perfect. Another difference is that Meir's game has a huge part of action in it, where KOEI has just tactical duels (nicely done in number VI, one of my favourite games EVER).
I prefer tactical and turn based, but that's my taste.

Now that I've played this I see where Shogun: Total War got its ideas from. However, I couldn't save or do anything in duels
Then I checked out the forum here, and you've answered my question before I even asked it! k: Now I'll go and try it out...
