Since I had installed it on a laptop without a mouse, it was nearly unplayable, so I haven't run it more often than 2-3 times. That probably explains why it didn't hang.

I have followed the instructions, and changed everything you said. I've never made any changes to the config file, and I installed the new DOSBox only recently.
All I can see is a black screen.

Just curious, how many times did you try to run it, since bractulunatis indicates that 4/10 times it didn't work?

I still think the C64 version is better. Maybe it's just that it emulates badly, but the music is annoying and the game runs at a leisurely pace. If there could be a version that plays like the C64 version with VGA quality graphics, then that would be cool.

I had similar problems with Archon Ultra and also wasn't able to run it, but I now found a solution (at least for me).

First, I setted everything like said in guesst's review, although I changed all the rates to 44100 (like he mentioned above).

However, the core must be set to normal. I had it on Dynamic at first, but the game doesn't start then. Setting it on normal fixed that for me.

ummm, are there Alt attacks? im kinda confused with these controls...

rofl, he meant alternate attacks, not attacks done by using the alt key
