Is it possible to connect say a Xbox 360 to a PC without a router and still let the Xbox connect to the internet? If so, how?

You'll need an extra LAN card, though - that is, unless your computer has a dual one either integrated with motherboard or in the PCI slot.

Well, it has and it will have a network card (my current laptop and my future desktop), but since my modem is usb, network card is free.
So, the xbox360 doesn't need to connect directly to a router to connect online?

I think the real problem will not be only how to connect them, but also how to configure them so the PC can share its Internet connection and the Xbox360 can recognize and use it.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, you'll need a crossover ethernet cable to connect the two devices directly to one another. Those are easy to make from normal ethernet cables, though...if you've got the necessary hardware.

So, the 360 is smart enough to work like this?

Yes, a crossover cable will be needed :-)
