The more I read this forum, the older I feel!

The first computer my family had was a Vic 20. We had the tape drive for it.

I remember two text adventures I use to play and wonder if they are gone forever...or if anyone else remembers them.

This was probably the very beginning of the 80's (Vic 20 was before the C64).

The one we had on a tape was called "Young Arthur's Quest." You play Arthur (as in Arthur and the Round Table), but this is before he becomes king. I THINK he was looking for a sword....

Then the other was a cartridge you plugged into the back of the Vic 20. I THINK it was called VooDoo Castle... I remember getting stuck at a certain place and it drove me nuts. And this was WAY before internet and walkthroughs!

Does anyone remember these?

Vic 20? My God! How old are you? LOL Hey, great to see an old-timer (used to have the C64 myself, cassette player and all. The best games ever I played on that one). I'm sorry, but since I never had a Vic 20 or the cartridge, I never played them. Even so:

About that second game: Does "Voodoo Castle Adventure" from '82 ring any bell? I looked up a Vic 20 fan site with a list of games. Unfortunately they apparently offer some ROMs, which means, I think, I can't direct you to that site.

My favourite games were Andy Capp, Giana Sisters, Lazy Jones and Congo Bongo mainly along with every flight sim I could come across, but the sheer number of titles back then was, and still is, mindblowing I mean, I had one cassette with 100 original games for Pete's sake. Aweful all of them, but 100!!!?? LOL

Sounds interesting, but i have some questions (as usual)

1. How old is a VIC. 20
2. Would it fit into a toilet? (explanation will follow.)
3. Is it considered dead? (as in absolutely NOWHERE to get)

As for the Question at hand, i think it's too old to be emulated properly. (eg. not so many interested peeps)

1. It was released in 1980/1981, which makes it 27 - 26 years old
2. Is that an actual toilet you're talking about, or a small bathroom with room for a toilet and a sink? If the former, I don't think so, judging by pictures of it. If the latter, yes, it looks to be roughly the same size as a C64.
3. This I can't answer...

As for emulation, I believe that VICE can emulate the Vic-20, as well as the C64, C128, and PET.

As for the answer at hand, you're wrong. There are people who are acctually still using it (not your everyday computer usage, but the thing's not dead).

In the C64 community there are many people who switched to C64 after owning a Vic first.

You just reminded me of a guy I met last night. He still owns, maintains and uses and old portable C64.

Portable! The thing is soooo big, it's like a suitcase full of bricks - but it gave me a giggle

By the by, I know voodoo castle - good times.

Yikes...I'm.....GULP....34!

We had the C64 after our Vic...sigh... The good ol' days. I did manage to find some comments on VooDoo Castle online, but nothing about the other game. And that was the first (and probably only) text adventure I actually got to the end of without help!!

By the time we got the C64 we had the disk drive.... We had several Infocom games (love those) and then Summer Games and such.

I vaugely remember one that was based on characters from Mad Magazine...can't think of their names....Spy vs. Spy I think?

Anyone use BBSs? We had a 300 BAUD modem with our C64.... Spent a lot of time on the local computer bulletin board systems... That's actually how I met my husband!!! Imagine out excited we were to get a 1200 baud modem!!! Haha...

We had a computer users group that had people with C64, C128, Amiga, Atari, etc.... Sigh... Good memories! My husband was a total Atari ST devotee.

I might be "old," but I'm a kid at heart.... Still love to play those old games.... (just have less time since I have two kids now! My oldest can play these games along with me now though!! Gotta pass these gems on to the next generation!!!

MAD Magazine games? Yes, Spy VS Spy was one, or rather three :brain: brilliant two player games they were. Me and my bro used to play them and hate each other's guts for minutes on end afterwards. Hmmm I need to find a C64 emu that will work on Vista. All those titles: Spy Vs Spy, Bruce Lee, Last Ninja, Boulder Dash, Hunchback... *sings* "I don't wanna grow up!"

Yes, my brother and I played Spy vs. Spy... sounds like we weren't quite as competative as you and your bother though!

Loved Bruce Lee! My hubby was playing that last night...took him forever to get it to run slow enough though (I kept telling him to read the instructions on this site, but....).

We had several others.....can't remember who made them. It was on the C64.... Alice in Wonderland, Swiss Family Robinson..... They were based on classic books... The Swiss Family Robinson was text based...I think there were graphic too though. And Alice you used the joy stick.... I wonder if my Dad has already given away all that stuff. He had the C64, drive, monitor up until they moved last year, but they got rid of tons of stuff then, so not sure if he still has them or not. If I had room, I'd claim them!
