Thumbs up

I have been looking all over the web for a site like this. I need a little assistance. I had an NHL hockey game for my PC that looks exactly like NHL 93. I cannot remember if I bought mine that early. I do think remember however, that the box had a picture from the 93/94 Rangers Stanley Cup Season of Mike Richter making a super-split glovesave.

Does anyone know if there was an NHL 94 for PC that looked similar to 93?

Appreciate any help.

Michael

I'd like to point out that the game on Abandonia is called "NHL Hockey" with no year number at the end of it. It's just often referred to as NHL Hockey 93 since it came out that year (although all EA Sports games come out during the year before the number in the title).

If I'm not mistaken, the console version did have a year number in it.

Anyway, the next game in the series was called NHL 95, and it looked exactly like this one (and I have been looking for it for ages). So Michael, it might be it's NHL 95 you've got there.

Ah, then it must be because I remember the NY Rangers being really strong, plus some different goalie animations.

As the Rangers won the cup in 94/95 that must be the version I have then.

Many thanks!

P.S.

As I am living abroad I cannot easily get access the game disks back in NY. I can ask someone to mail them to me if they are found in my place. Otherwise, we'll just have to keep searching.

P.P.S. NHL 93 seems somewhat slow...Yes I hit ctrl f12 to up the cycles.....maybe it was just really slow for ea's first game. Also, is there a way I can enlarge the screen?

Thanks again,

Mike

I'm afraid I cannot advice on the slowness problem, as I've always played the game in real DOS.

However, for those who feel that EA's hockey games were much better before they started using a 3D engine, I'd like to recommend downloading the Gens emulator and playing the NHL games with that. The Genesis versions of the series all used 2D engines, and especially NHL 98 plays great.

Also, you can play the Genesis version of NHL 97 for free at the EA Sports website (choose "NHL 97 (free)" from the Hockey pull-down menu).

By the way, the Genesis version of NHL Hockey had penalty shots and the player could even control the goalkeepers. I wonder why those features didn't make it to the PC version?

manual goalies are part of what made the early versons of nhl great. you could actually stop the one-timer and wraparounds in 95, or that turn in faceoff circle and shoot in 94, and practially anything in 93.
is a bummer that they aren't in this pc version. maybe i'll see if roenick or kirk mueller are superhumans in this version.
