Default looking for a space simulator, cant remember title

The game im looking for, gonna try to explain it as best i can.
I used to play it from a generic shareware CD I got hands on in mid 90's. I wouldnt be surprised if its very rare and not particulary heard of, but im gonna try my luck because i reeaally wanna play it again.

The interface and playstyle of the game was very similar to master of orion if im not mistaken, but much much simpler. if i remember it correctly you basicly had a square map of space with many planets(not sure, but i think you could choose the number of planets and enemies) that you could "colonize" which gave you materials, that you could use to research improvements to your weapons and shields, and ofcourse build your armada of ships that you used to blow out your competition.

When the battles occured a new window popped up where you could se the battle taking place your ships on one side and the enemies ships on the other side, with lazers and missiles flowing between them.

Now. if you have any clue whatsoever what game this could be. Please let me know, ive been looking for this for a few years now
For some reason the name "defcon" keeps popping up in my head, but ive had no luck finding such game searching that on google and wiki. As i have no clue i could be totally wrong with the name

There is a Defcon 5 but that doesn't fit your description.

Take a look at the 4x games on mobys, maybe it's there somewhere ....

Makes me think of Starflight in some ways, and Armada 2525 in others.

Sounds like maybe you're looking for "Space Empires?" I played some SE3 back in the 90s... Malfador's put out new versions since then; I think they're up to 5 now.

The disc might be "GCW Games & More" because the game sounds like "Stelcon" (not sure of the spelling.) or it might be "Stelcon 3"
