I think I used about 8-10,000 cycles when I last played it.

Remember for the talkie you need to get the .iso and mount it properly to get speech working. Possible to do this in DosBox, took me a while to sort it out (reading DosBox FAQs/readme files is important!).

So it's not possible to get the sound working without the .iso?

It's been a while, but I think the iso in the iso cellar is the CD-ROM version, which contains the voice acting. The other zip on the main review page is for the floppy disk version, which did not have the voice acting.

The sound effects, music etc. should all be the same, the only difference is the voice-acting.

Hope that helps!

The version on site is the floppy disc version, it has sound effects and music. All of which will work if ran in Dosbox, do not try running this game outside of Dosbox the much higher CPU speeds of new computers will cause many many bugs.

The ISO is the the CD version, which includes voice overs and I think maybe slightly better music and sound effects quality. Also needs to be played under Dosbox.

Wonderful article by Richard Cobbett on Rock Paper Shotgun:

Gaming Made Me: Quest for Glory IV

He really captures some of the magic of the series, and this game in particular. I've mentioned Abandonia (but not linked to it) to those that want to play it, but that may get removed... not sure what the RPS leadership think of our site.

This is my favorite game series. Although I got into it by playing QfG 5 Dragon Fire which is the last one, the first four ones are amazing

The rope is in town in the old adventurer's guild. Not sure if its there if you are a wizard though since you use levitate.

Finished with a score of 491.

Too many bugs in this game, even with the unofficial patch. The story also is far to be good and the game overall is very confusing. The fights are too easy too win (never lost one) and there are too many days where you have nothing to do. There isnt even the option to sleep until evening.

This could have been the best of the series but sadly fails.
