Like other people, I have trouble running Enemy Unknown on my computer. As gufu mentioned, the game either appears on half a screen or all bunched up at the top of the screen. Sound seems to be fine. If it helps, here is some of my info...

System: Windows XP Pro, SP2
Computer: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 201GHz, 896MB of RAM

I downloaded the windows version of the game, not the DOS. I'm on a brand-new machine which is fast as hell, and I've read something about getting a slowdown and something about Dosbox, and then something about turning off a hardware accelerator. What would you suggest?

PS: While I'm not as dumb as SOME people who have asked about this, I'm pretty slow with computer terminology. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try using VDMSound instead to help you there. Or else look thru the .cfg file to see if there are any areas you should change, such as screen and location.

I'd suggest that you try the DOS version instead, which is really the same than the Windows version anyways. To do that, you should try DOSBox as it solve about all the problems you could encounter.

DOSBox 0.63 has some issues with timing for this game. I believe that this is resolved in new built, that you can find from DOSBox web site.

Almost there. Got DOSBox, downloaded it, installed UFO DOS version. The DOSBox tutorial was utterly fantastic by the way.

Just one thing.... which command will start the game? It's been a while since I played around with DOS commands.

Oh, and big thanks to everyone who responded!

Look for either a .bat, .exe or .com file.

Yep... sure enough, it's the UFOCD command. Works like a dang well-oiled machine! Thanx for all your help, you guys are incredible!

Many thanks,

Hey guys,

I got DOSBOX etc running, but at the world screen it seems like I'm running on my old 386 again.. So my guess was these were the timing issues. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Carlos.

Well, just play with the cycles and unless you have a slow machine it should turn out alright.
