DId anyone ever beat this game? I had it way back when I owned an NES, and I played it for hours and never beat it. Was there a secret?

BTW - I love Rockstar Pomegranate (The Red One)

The arcade version was my favourite videogame back then. Yes it's damn hard and actually I'm not sure that it has an ending at all. I think it's one of those old arcades whose only point was achieving ever higher scores.

*thanks to admin for moving to proper locale*

Yeah, I used a game genie finally when it came out, and played it for *kid you not* 5 hours
and nothing ever happened. Same w/ Gauntlet 2 for NES. I hate games w/ no ending, although I don't mind if they let you continue after you've beaten it ala Fallout 2

I'm not sure, but, is this a game in which you drive through a road full of cars shooting some of them and avoiding others, from a top view? If it is, then I had it on my Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and is the oldest game I remember ever playing.

Yes, and at one point in the NES version, you could drive off to the left and become a hovercraft. I THINK those were the only 2 vehicles, but there may have been a motorcycle too, but I'm not sure. It was a lot of fun, I was just ticked that it had no end...ever. I would even try different combinations of land and sea just to see if it was a pattern (Like the final castle in Super Mario Bros) ... ahh...to be young and naive again...

All really ancient arcade games were like that, it was all about achieving high scores. I owned an Atari 2600 console and it came with 32 games in one cartridge and none of them had an ending, well except the sports ones of course. I usually get tired of it as well, but Spy Hunter was so frigging awesome in its concept and form (and that music ppl!). I remember one summer when I had no access to videogames for weeks in a small village and I made some friends and we were talking about videogames half of the time, and this one was one of the stars of the discussions, it was my favourite and everyone else liked it as well.

Umm guess what! Midway the creators of the game have it free to play in a Shockwave emulator! Here is a link: http://www.midway.com/rxpage/ClassicGamePl...?game=spyhunter

Added: Oh yea Firefox seems to bug on this page, but I think its cause Shockwave didn't install properly.

I probably would have like it had I known it had no ending, but I spent so much time anticipating the great ending that must come w/ such a long game, I really felt let down, which is why I don't care all that much for it. It's fun in doses, but not for long anymore...
