Soldiers at War
Hi,
There's a couple of games that I would very much like to get my hands on. Are these two titles abandonware? They must surely be by now? Chaos Gate is based on Warhammer 40k and I never managed to get it working when it came out, but now I'm much better set up for old games so I'd love to give it a spin. Soldiers at War looked very interesting, a kind of WWII X-com apparently with a mission editor and everything. Sounded just my kind of thing! Unfortunately, again, it completely failed to work. If anyone knows anything about these two or there's any possibility of getting them on the site can you let me know? I think they might both appeal to a lot of gamers. |

I only have:
Soldiers at War - Random Games - 1998 - 161MB And I don't think this is abandonware. |

Failed to work on what? (Soldiers at war)
I have the game, it is very good, it is more like Sabre Team than X-Com. You need to dowload the latest patches or else the game is unplayable after a mission. |

Soldiers of war was '98? Really I thought it was much older than that, 161meg is fairly chunky. I think at the time I got to try it I was on XP and tried about a million different things to get it going but it always bombed out before or just after the menu screen but then XP isn't the best for older games so I wasn't too surprised. Maybe I'll find a copy on Ebay or something.

I don't think Chaos Gate is abandoned either.
I was looking for it awhile too, but all Warhammer games have VERY tight protection.

Chaos Gate = SSI = ESA.
To add insult to injury, not compatibile with WinXP (managed to run it in MS Virtual PC with 98SE installed, though). Furthermore, it runs horribly slow on anything less then 300 Mhz. Finally, the size. A 7-ZIP of the game ISO made for backup purposes (a few too many CD's have died on me recently) is resting on my hdd @ approximately 600 MB size (if I remember right). |
