It's not really gaming news as such though, is it? It's just disgustingly neglectful parents news - the stupid thing is, it'd get far less attention if they were neglecting them due to drugs or something else; the media focuses on it as another opportunity to vilify games instead of idiots.

You just explained why it is gaming news, didn't you? The media has a strong influence on the opinions of the mundane, and in this case the newspaper is doing it by emphasizing the gaming aspect of the newsbit. Since they don't state what games the parents were addicted to, it concern the entire gaming field, not just one area of it (which might be for example online casions, just as well as EverQuest, World of Warcraft, or Teletubbies Online). Of course, in the end, the game type to get the blame in the peoples eyes is the kind that the general public doesn't like (violent, "harmful" titles).

Anyhow, this is gaming news because media has made it so, and also the gaming world should respond to it.

(Hm. I'm having troubles getting my thoughts organised. Need more coffee now.)

Yeah, my point kinda changed as I was writing that - not enough coffee myself. The point is that it SHOULDN'T be gaming news, but it gets made into that by the media spin.
