See.

Found it!

(Because I know you are restless)

This is a Atari rom, though... You will have to download an emulator by yourself, Lothar.

Meanwhile I'll look further for the PC version.

Bedtime.

I'll search more tomorrow.

It's already 12 at night and I have to get up at 5.30.

Since I can't post pictures on the site.

Take a look at this one. It is the most detailed view of the game that I have found so far. There are pictures of everything ranging from cover scans to the pictures from the manual.

As i see in the picture this is the arcade game. It doesn't look like the game i remember at all... But i suppose that since its a arcade game it should be very different from its computer version.

So that is not the game....

Then I will have to find the sequel.
(But first I have to eat my dinner).

There we are.

Try this on for size, Lothar.

Do any of these pictures look familiar?

This game fits the description you have given above.

After some more searching on the net, I have produced a list of the Star Trek games made for the Atari.

Atari 2600
Star Trek
Star Trek II: The wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The search for Spock
Star Trek Strategic Operations Simulator

Atari 5200
Star Trek III: The search for Spock
Star Trek Strategic Operations Simulator
Star Trek the Motion Picture

As far as I can see, it is only the Operations Simulator that fits the bill. That is why I posted the above link. That game is NOT made for Atari.
