Did you type your CD key into your Steam account, and THEN install it, or did you install Half-Life, put your Steam CD key, and then let Steam update your HL files? If you did that, it's most likely that something screwed up, it did it with me.

I installed it and then put my CD key in...umm, how do I fix this now? Because even though i've reinstalled three times, i've only input my key once and the mods stayed registered under my account.

??? Just uninstall it from your PC, and uninstall the Steam install as well, leave the mods alone, then just reinstall it over steam without installing it from the disk.
If it doesn't work then, then I don't know, it's probably video card errors, because Half-Life on Steam is extremely touchy when it comes to choosing OpenGL or Direct3D.

I'll try it when I get my new disk, I exchanged the old one and they're ordering a new one now...
Is it just me, or does Half-Life have about a billion things that can go wrong?

*Sigh* FORGET ABOUT THE DISk!
If you are using Steam, you DON'T NEED the disk! If you put in your CD key, you can totally FORGET about the disk, don't even try installing it with the disk, only install it from Steam.

Over 28k modem? That... might.... take ... a while. Iowa, the old versions of half-life were extremely stable and were able to run on very old computers. i suggest you share it with your friend. i dont' see anything wrong with it in this case since you have the original...

Well that's just how he's going to have to do it, unless he wants to play without Steam, and then he won't find many games online (or most of them will just be filled with hackers).

*sigh* I hate you Valve, I hate you so much... :wallbash: :ranting: :not_ok: :vomit:
If I borrow my friend's old HL disk, do I need to insert the CD every time I want to play, or can I just install it and give it back (like DOS games).
