This is a recommendation for Dutch speakers. If you are able I recommend buying, "De 25 dagen van Nederland". It is a new series of magazines devoted to Dutch History. Well writen and filled with illustrations it is easily read and understood. On their website you can get a subscription but you can also buy it in your local bookshop. The first magazine cost €3,50 later magazines will be €5,-. If you subscribe you will get a free reproduction of a historical atlas of the Netherlands. I suggest you check it out.
