Like Chess, there is no single winning move, and it's possible to win the game in a number of ways.
Here are some general suggestions on how to give yourself the best chance:

Know your Enemy
Fighters have a small radar coverage that moves with them. This makes them perfect for scouting missions, deep within enemy territory.
To know where enemy structures are is well worth the loss of a few fighters.

(I've found you can also use remaining fighters as a shield for your bombers and nukes, distracting Silos on Air Defence, and as patrols to intercept enemy bombers)

Attack Timing
Silos are extremely effective at shooting down your nukes. When attacking, try to wait for the enemy silos to be in launch mode - then they are defenceless (if you know where they are... But they can't shoot yr nukes). If that is not an optionk ensure you launch plenty of your own nukes at the enemy silos and try to ensure they all land at the same time - they will have a greater chance of getting through.

Submarine Surprise
Try to sneak your subs right up to the enemy coast. Wait for your enemy to fire their ground silos and then use your subs to nuke the ground-based silos. The silos will not have time to defend themselves and you will have left your opponent defenceless.

Sitting Ducks
A fleet of six Battleships is vulnerable because it has no defence against enemy subs. Mix at least one Carrier or Sub with your Battleships for protection.

Sub Hunting
Carriers are the best weapons against enemy Subs - put them into anti-submarine mode and search in the areas where you think the enemy Subs may be (ie. Along your coastline, near you biggest cities).

Destroy Enemy navy
Get your navy next to their coast
At DEFCON 3 launch all your bombers
Hope bombers hit targets
wait
wait for enemy to launch nukes at you, then nuke back. i prefer using all my carrier fighter pilots to fly over the enemy country and distract the silos while my nukes are coming down
