Too many games these days focus on lots of pointless gunfire and action with no real gameplay, no challenge and the story is usually crap, and full of holes to boot.

The plot in shooting games is as important as in porn movies.

Total BS, that's a horrible misconception, stories in shooters can be just as important in nearly any other game, we're just diluted by games that don't use a proper story, it's been that way in RTS games, Adventure games (which is why the majority of adventure games are bad) TBS games, Flight Sims, RPGs, and many others.

Many of you may have heard that Peter Jackson, the director of Lords of The Rings and King Kong, has now become a video-game maker. Thanks to Halo.

Perhaps now we will see more cinematic and epic games.

What do you think?
[/b]
More cinematic and epic then the ones we already get? Please not, I have faith that the industry will get back to the core of games again, the gameplay.

No one wants to play the old LucasArts style adventure games anymore, for example, because people don't want to use their stupid brains when they play a game, they just want to relentlessly bash their PS2 controller to death trying to kill a 1,000,000 foot tall demon monster spawn of satan, using only a shotgun. Real time strategy is dying out, turn based strategy is totally dead in the water, and most video game players these days wouldn't even know what the hell you were talking about if you used the phrase "FPS". [/b]
I want to play those gorgeous old LucasArts style adventures! I love to challenge my ol' grey matter in that way - after all, it lets me fire off synapses that I wouldn't normally use at work, walking the dog etc. etc.
I love to watch zombies on film, mess with zombies in games, read about zombies in comics and books, but dammit, I will not BE a liesure-time zombie!

By the way, perhaps if the marketing folks removed the word "strategy" from RT Strategy titles people might be fooled into thinking that they can buy it, load it up and let their brain slowly melt into oblivion

For some reason the first sentance had me thinking he'd be defending the plot in porn. That would have been funny.

That aside, the idea that Peter Jackson is becoming a video game maker kind of makes me laugh. The guy makes millions on one epic project, one classic remake, and decides to throw it all away on the financially shaky world of video game development. His fame is guarenteed to insure at least breaking even on any game he makes, so that's okay for him I guess. But he won't be seeing the millions there are to make in fantisy video games.

Still, film makers who make videogames make great video games. Look up Jordan Mechner if you want an example.

What's funnier is how you spelled sentence.

Hmmm.

Hmmmmmm.

Well, I guess this will continue the trend of games having amazing graphics, more cutscenes, and less gameplay then?

His movies are good (I liked LoTR anyway, although I prefer the book, I like the epic feel to the movies. HE did a good job with them). But games need to be about interaction. I like games that are less focused on plot, but give you more freedom of what to do. Like the Elder Scrolls games: the plot is there, but you can freely do what you want within the game world. There aren't enough games like that.

I like the Final Fantasy games. Love them even. But Final Fantasy X is a good example of the other extreme: the game is very focused in its's plot and you get little to no freedom to explore the game world and do things other than the main plot (at least until right at the end). It's a good game, the plot is great, but I prefer the freedom of games like Daggerfall (which is a better game, even with the dated graphics and numerous crippling bugs). FFX is more like an interactive movie than a game at times.

Anyway, I'm rambling on but what I'm trying to say is that I think Peter Jackson would be more inclined towards a heavily linear plot-driven game, like most games are these days. I'm sure his games will have shiny great graphics and a wonderful story, and lots of cinematic cutscenes, and there will be 2 minute spells inbetween the cutscenes where you actually get to do something.

Of course I could be wrong....
