If I download VDM sound to my computer how do I get it to work with Dosbox? Do I put it inside my oldgames file which I have set up to take me to dosbox or do I leave it seperate and stat it after dosbox? Help!

You don't use it WITH DosBox. If you download a game from Abandonia which is marked as Win XP compatible, install VDM Sound, right-click game executable (or .bat, depending on the game) and click Run with VDMS. Then you can play the game with sound in Win XP WITHOUT DosBox. Also, be sure to select Sounblaster as audio card in game options.
